It’s finally April and you know what that means! It’s time to take our OWLs!!! Normally I would not be even slightly excited for taking any kind of school-related test. But this is Harry Potter and it’s not actually a test so it makes a little more sense to be excited.

For those of you who don’t know, this is a reading challenge created by Book Roast over on YouTube. She’s put a crazy amount of effort into it to make it original and exciting for every one doing it and it’s absolutely amazing! She’s created a prompt for every class someone can take at Hogwarts so people are free to pick and choose which classes they’ll be taking their OWLs in. She’s also gone one step further and has figured out the OWLs needed for various Wizarding careers for those who want to take their OWLs for a certain career. I’ve decided to go down that route because why not?? I want to feel as a part of the Harry Potter universe as I possibly can.

So, for those of you who are reading this are aren’t my friends and family you probably don’t know that I’m majoring in, which is International Business and Archaeology. I’m telling you this because I chose the career I’m basing my OWLs off of is Curse Breaker. One time when I was bored I decided to look up which wizarding world career was most similar to archaeology and according to someone on the internet, it’s Curse Breaker! Which also happens to be the same job that Bill Weasley has. Who is the best side character in Harry Potter, feel free to @ me.

The OWLs needed for Curse Breaker are Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Charms, DADA, Potions, and Transfiguration. This isn’t as intensive as some other careers OWLs which is good because I think this just these ones are going to be hard enough for me.

Here’s the prompts and the books I’m choosing:
Ancient Runes – Retelling

A Study in Charlotte – Brittany Cavallaro
Arithmancy – More Than One Author

The Zhivago Affair – Peter Finn and Petra Couvée
Charms – Age-line: Read an Adult Book

Becoming – Michelle Obama
DADA – Reducto: Title Starts With “R”

Room – Emma Donoghue
Potions – Next Ingredient: Sequel

Shadowcaster – Cinda Williams Chima
Transfiguration – Sprayed Edges or Red Cover

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
I’ve started Becoming this past month already and I’m really liking it so far. I also tried to use books that I have physically, so the only audiobook I have on this list is Shadowcaster by Cinda Williams Chima. I’ll probably end up listening to a lot more than just one audiobook this month but I’ll leave that up to whatever I’m in the mood for. And what’s available through my library.
If you’re doing this reading challenge too what books are you reading? And if you’re not (though you should!!) which career would you want to have in the wizarding world?
