Sunshine Blogger Award| My First One!!!

First off, I would like to thank my parents and my sister for supporting me – JUST kidding. I’m not that self-centered, I swear. I do want to thank Meeghan from @meeghanreads for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! It really means a lot, especially since I’m still getting my bearings with blogging and trying to interact with other bloggers. If you haven’t come across Meeghan’s blog yet I highly recommend you do! Her posts are fun and diverse and she does a great job of getting her personality across (which is sooo hard through writing so color me impressed haha).

So… what exactly IS the Sunshine Blogger Award?

According to Meeghan, it’s an award given to bloggers who you find creative, positive, and/or inspiring as a way to spread the love and sunshine across the blogging community.

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Onto the questions!!!

Which fictional character best displays your values?

Ooooh this is a hard one. Generally, when I’m reading I don’t really notice when or if a character is similar to me, or I forget about it since I have the memory of a goldfish. My top five values are respect, intelligence, loyalty, creativity, and empathy. Not to be cliché but I feel that based off of those values it would have to be Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I feel like both book her and movie her really embody these qualities, which is probably why I love her so much.

What is your favourite book you’ve read so far this year, and why?

This is a hard one too! I’ve read a lot of really great books this year, but one that really stands out to me and that isn’t as talked about is Red Winter by Annette Marie. I wasn’t expecting much from this book for some reason when I started it but Ho-lee shit my dudes. It’s absolutely amazing! You follow a teen girl who has been trained her whole life to become the vessel of a shrine god. It’s set in Japan and is influenced by Japanese mythology, including many different kinds of yokai (Japanese demons). From the characters, to the plot, to the worldbuilding, TO THE ROMANCE, I can’t rave about it enough. It’s part of a trilogy and I ended up finishing the trilogy in about 2 days.

What is your favourite book to movie adaptation?

Howl’s Moving Castle. Hands down, it’s Howl’s Moving Castle. It is not only my favorite book but also my favorite movie. I haven’t seen or read either in a while but they both fill my heart with so much joy it actually makes me want to cry sometimes. Also, while the movie took many creative differences from the book, Studio Ghibli did an amazing job and I feel like they should be treated as two separate yet similar entities. Ugh I love them so much. Maybe I’ll stream the movie later (just kidding FBI man, I’m totally kidding).

Which fictional character do you think would be the most boring to meet in real life?

Ohohoho this may cause some people to not like me, but I like to think that we’re all adults and can handle people having different opinions from us. It would probably be either Tessa Grey or Feyre from ACOTAR. Fight me stans. Actually though, while I enjoyed both of those series I felt like neither of the main characters had much personality, so they would probably be pretty boring for me to talk to irl.

What is one thing you do to unwind?

Does reading count? If not, I like to color in coloring books while watching YouTube videos. I especially like food YouTube videos (my favorite food YouTubers are Binging with Babish and Rachel Ama).

If you could pick any author to write a fairytale retelling, who would you pick and which fairytale?

This will probably come as absolutely no surprise but I would have loved if Diana Wynne Jones had written a fairytale retelling. It could have been any one, but I feel like she would have done a good job with The Wild Swans, which was originally by Hans Christian Andersen.

What’s the best book title you’ve ever heard of?

After going through a lot of my Goodreads shelves and making a list of book titles I really liked, I remembered one that is by far one of the most unique and telling titles I’ve come across so far. That title is A Series of Unfortunate Events. Granted, this is the title of the series, but comeon! That title is so intriguing and yet tells a lot about what the series is going to be about.

Who is your OTP or bookish BFF?

If I’m being completely honest I don’t really have any OTPs or anything like that. Based on my favorite book it would have to be Sophie and Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle, OH WAIT! I just remembered that I absolutely love, and I mean loooooove, Kaz and Inej. They both have so many issues and I haven’t read Crooked Kingdom yet but I feel like they’re not going to get together. I would really like if in future series set in the same universe, they could be side characters and we could get to see them work out their issues and eventually get together.

If you could control one element (earth, air, fire or water), which would you choose?

I’ve actually had this discussion with my sister where we gave our family members (us, our mom, and our dad) the element that most suited them! It was more than several years ago though, so I can’t exactly remember what I had, but I’m pretty sure it was earth. Now, if we’re basing this off of the W.I.T.C.H comics I would totally stand by earth, but if we’re talking more Avatar: The Last Airbender situation I would probably have to go with water.

Who is your favourite fictional animal? (i.e., not just dragons, but Kozu from The Last Namsara)

My love for Howl’s Moving Castle is really coming through here, but does Calcifer count? Probably not. I’m realizing now that I don’t read very many books with fictional animals in them. I should probably fix that. Anyway, I think I would have to choose the three dragonlings (draclings? Baby dragons.) that are in Dragon’s Milk by Susan Fletcher. Their names are Embyr, Pyro, and Synge and they’re absolutely adorable.

What is your favourite way to treat yourself?

I rarely treat myself, mostly because I’m a super broke college student/almost graduate. But when I do it’s usually through buying myself a book I really wanted or makeup I’ve been eyeing for a while.

My Questions:

What’s your favorite lesser known book or series and why?

Would you rather be a character in a whimsical magical tale or an epic space opera?

If you could change something about your favorite book, what would you change?

Why did you start blogging?

What is your most controversial bookish opinion?

Personal library or public library?

What is your favorite thing about yourself?

What book character would you name a pet after? (and what kind of animal is the pet?)

Where would you go if you could go anywhere within driving distance (like 5 hours max) right now?

Who is your book boyfriend (or girlfriend)?

I had a lot of fun doing this and I hope you all enjoy reading it/doing it yourself!

  2. I love your answers!! Thank you for doing the tag / award!! 💕 Two things:
    1. OMG GO READ CROOKED KINGDOM IMMEDIATELY!!! (No, but seriously, put down whatever you’re doing and go read it.)
    2. Hahahahaha, I feel the same about Feyre. But I think it’s actually a genius idea of Maas’ – because Feyre is so bland, you could totally impose yourself onto her and that’s why everyone loves Rhys so much. Genius. I mean, I prefer Cassian, but I also have an unpopular opinion of liking Nesta as well.

    • Hahaha I guess Crooked Kingdom will be my next read. I honestly don’t know how I haven’t gotten to it yet.

That actually makes so much sense about Feyre, and I guess I fell into her trap cause I’m a total sucker for Rhys 😂 And I didn’t know that liking Nesta was unpopular!! I mean she started to wear on me in the last book but overall it was nice to have a female character that wasn’t a boring stick in the mud 🤷‍♀️

      • I just liked that Nesta stayed true to herself. She does what she wants, and no man changes her opinion or tells her what to do. She never wanted to be fae, and she took from the cauldron something else (and we don’t know what it is yet). She’s fiery and passionate and I think she gets a bad rep for being true to who she is.

  4. Thank you for the nomination, love! I love Luna Lovegood … I aspire to be like her, since she’s so accepting and down to Earth! I also have to agree … Kaz and Inej are an awesome duo.

I don’t think I read the W.I.T.C.H. comics, so I don’t know which element I would choose based off of that. Avatar wise (LOVE THIS SHOW), I would either go with water or earth. I love being able to fight AND heal using water bending, but being attuned with the Earth is pretty cool …
