May Recap

Oh hey.

So, at the beginning of May I decided that I wouldn’t force myself to commit to a TBR like I’d been doing for a while. I was hoping that this way I would be more inclined to read and not feel pressure to read books that I’m not interested in reading at that moment. I’m sure you’re very surprised but it worked! I ended up reading 17 books. Let me say that again. I read. 17 books. That’s actually insane!

Part of the reason my count was so high was due to audiobooks, of course, and a 24-hour readathon that I did over Memorial Day weekend! I wrote about it here if you want to check it out.

Here are all the books I read:

Stay Sweet – Vivian Siobhan ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Review)

Descendant of the Crane – Joan He ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Olivia Twist – Lorie Langdon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Court of Wings and Ruin – Sarah J. Maas ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Cruel Prince – Holly Black ⭐️⭐️.75

The Thief – Megan Whalen Turner ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Iron King – Julie Kagawa ⭐️⭐️ (Review)

Four Dead Queens – Astrid Scholte ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Selection – Kiera Cass ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Muse of Nightmares – Laini Taylor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Daughter of the Pirate King – Tricia Levenseller ⭐️

Enchantée – Gita Trelease ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (Review)

Sawkill Girls – Claire Legrand ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

To Kill A Kingdom – Alexandra Christo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Crown of Feathers – Nicki Pau Preto ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chase the Dark – Annette Marie ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bind the Soul – Annette Marie ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Total Books Read: 17

Total Pages Read: 6,791

Average Rating: 3.5

I found a new favorite this month with To Kill A Kingdom. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting going into the book but it surprised me in the best way. Our two main characters were so interesting and well developed, the world building was great, and the plot was so fun! Also pirates and mermaids! I was relieved to read this after reading the shit show that was Daughter of the Pirate King. I forced myself to complete that book and I don’t think I’ve hated a book so much in a while.

I’m not going to be posting a June TBR this month as well. Mostly because I think TBR’s just aren’t my thing. I’m not a super organized person and I’m such a mood reader that I don’t think TBR’s are really that helpful for me. Also, I’m graduating this month and going on a trip around Asia with one of my best friends so I won’t have a lot of time to read during that part of June and July. However, I have a shit ton of books coming in that I requested from the library so I’m going to try and finish those before I leave for Asia.

OH! ALSO!!! I was accepted for three ARCs from Netgalley this past month! I genuinely did not expect it and I’m so excited to get into them! The ARCs I received are:

The Immortal City – Amy Kuivalainen

The Immortal City involves looking for the lost city of Atlantis, Venice, and a magic infused murder mystery. I’m so excited!!

Steel Crow Saga – Paul Krueger

This book involves a ragtag bunch of misfits, including undercover royalty, that come together to fight a greater evil.

Minor Prophets – Jimmy Cajoleas

Minor Prophets appears to be a mystery following a brother and a sister trying to figure out what the brother’s visions mean when they go to live with their grandma after their mom dies.

Honorable Mention:

I discovered the web comic Lore Olympus and it’s amazing!! It’s based off the Hades and Persephone story and it’s so fun, I highly recommend checking it out!

What was your favorite book you read in May?

  1. Oh man, the amount of love I have in my heart for The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner is a little scary. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series if you read it!

I also just discovered Lore Olympus recently, and I am HOOKED!
