I Tried My First 24 Hour Readathon

In honor of the three-day weekend we just had in America, I decided to have a 24-hour readathon. I’d seen them all over YouTube and I would always think to myself – you know what? I could totally do that! But I never had the time to. But then Memorial Day weekend came up and I figured why not? The weather is gonna be shit anyway, might as well have a slightly valid reason for staying inside all day.

I first thought I could start the readathon at midnight on Friday and read through Saturday. No surprise to anyone but me, I was a big dummy and forgot that I had work all day on Saturday. I’m just glad I actually remembered that I had work because that would have been a mess. I can’t even imagine what my manager would have said if he asked why I didn’t come into work and I said that I forgot and instead decided to read all day. Anyway, my original plans thwarted, mostly by myself and my goldfish brain, I ended up doing the readathon starting Saturday at midnight and going through Sunday.

12:00 am

I’ve just started and I’m pretty excited! I have a bunch of books I mean to read and I’m hopeful that I’ll get through quite a few of them. I made myself some tea, except the only kind I have is English breakfast so I’m hoping I don’t have a lot of trouble falling asleep when I actually do want to fall asleep. Oh well, what happens happens right? I’m snuggled up in bed to continue Enchantée, which I actually started a couple of days ago. I’m pumped. Let’s do this thing.

2:00 am

It’s 2:05 and I’m starting to get tired by this point. I’ve gotten a good chunk of Enchantée done so I may fall asleep soon. Or the caffine in the tea will get to me. Or I’ll just stay up because I have no self-control and I can’t ever seem to stop reading until I’m done with the book.

3:00 am

Still reading. Clearly, I did not go to sleep when I was starting to get tired. Which is what a normal person would have done.

4:00 am

It’s almost 4 and I’m still awake. I need to go to sleep now. Goodnight.

4:00 – 10:00 am

I’m finally awake! I tried waking up earlier and I just couldn’t happen. I probs should have gone to sleep earlier but I have very little self-control lol. I woke up with a major headache, like it honestly feels like I went out last night and I’m hungover today. Yikes. Now to make breakfast, get some caffine in me, and start reading!

11:00 am

I just finished making breakfast so now I’m going to start reading! I am still on Enchantée, though I’m very close to finishing.

12:00 pm

I finished Enchantée!!! I’m currently gathering my thoughts on it and writing my review. I’m giving it three stars because I enjoyed it but it didn’t wow me, ya know?

I finished my review for Enchantée! You can find it here if you’re interested in my thoughts on it. I’m not tired of reading yet so I’m on to the next book. I put a poll up on my Instagram story and the people decided my next read should be Daughter of the Pirate King. I’ve seen a lot of great reviews for it so I’m excited!

2:00 pm

It’s taking me a while to read this book. There’s just something about the writing that’s making me read every sentence twice. It’s like it can’t stick in my mind. I’m going to give it 50 pages and see what I think.

3:00 pm

Reading? I think I took a shower.

4:00 pm

Right so it’s 4 now and I’ve decided that even though I don’t like the Pirate King book I might as well keep reading and finish it because I bought it. I’m so disappointed though 😩

5:00 – 7:00 pm

My mom came up and we got dinner! So, I didn’t read during this time.

8:00 pm

I finished the Pirate King. I’m so glad I took a break from reading with my mom because tbh it was nice to have that reading break. Especially with Pirate King. I needed something to get my mind off that terrible book so I could stick it out and finish it when I got back to reading. I finished it purely because I wanted to prove to myself that I could. I hated it. Why did I even bother?

10:00 pm

I needed another break when I finished Pirate King because I couldn’t handle how bad it was. I then decided it would be a good idea to try a chapter of To Kill a Kingdom and Sawkill Girls, both of which seem significantly more promising than Pirate King. It’s almost 10 now and my eyes are getting tired. I chose to continue with TKaK and it’s shorter so I can possibly get a good chunk done before midnight! But for real my eyes are so damn dry idk what to do about it.

11:00 pm

Yo my eyes hurt man. They’re ridiculously tired. Good new though: I’m really enjoying To Kill A Kingdom. Huzzah!

12:00 am

And it’s the end! I want to try this again some time. Maybe I’ll actually try to stay up all 24 hours or maybe not. Probably not in all honesty, but I do want to try to actually wake up early and read literally all day. I got a little distracted there in the middle… I’m a good chunk of the way through To Kill A Kingdom and I’m loving it! It’s everything I was hoping Pirate King would be in the way of writing and I’m so glad I decided to finish up with this book.

**Fast Forward to 4:00 am**

I couldn’t stop myself reading and I finished To Kill A Kingdom. This isn’t included in the 24 hour readathon, so I technically read 2.5 books. But GUYS!!! To Kill A Kingdom is soooo good!!!!!
