August Recap | The Struggle is REAL

Something that I’ve been struggling with a lot recently is motivation. Between doing things that I truly enjoy to things that I need to get done, I sometimes find myself in a rut where I somehow can’t bring myself to do them.

During August it was particularly bad. The month started off pretty well, I got back from my trip and got straight into looking for/applying to jobs, reading, and working on my blog and Instagram. Around the middle of the month all of that started to dwindle down and my motivation for doing all of it did as well. It got to a point where I wasn’t even reading. Which usually isn’t a great sign for me. I think it mostly has to do with the transitional period I’m in right now where I’m not in school anymore but I also don’t have a “real job”. I’m living with my mom again and I think everything combined was really bringing my spirits down.

This month my focus is to work on my motivation. I’m not sure how I’m going to do it, as usually it’s my anxiety that forces me into these ruts and spirals. However, I really want to get myself out of this funk!

Thanks for letting me get all of that off my chest. I usually want to keep this blog on the lighter side, but I think it’s good to just get it out when it comes to things like this.

Now, based off this you’ll probably guess that I totally failed the NEWTS Readathon that I decided, rather late if I’m being honest, to participate in this past month. If you did happen to guess that you are right. Woooooo. I did end up getting some books read though!

When I started the NEWTS Readathon I planned on pursuing the career Herbologist, since that was one of the few careers I was qualified for after the OWLS Readathon, AND I thought it was going to be on the easy side. Which, I’m sure it would have been if I had kept up throughout the month.

I only ended up reading two of the books from my NEWTS TBR, Minor Prophets and Also Known As… Hopefully I’ll do better with my reading during September!

Books Read:

Minor Prophets – Jimmy Cajoleas (ARC) ⭐️⭐️.75

Also Known As – Robin Benway ⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

Stolen Songbird – Danielle L Jensen ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Hidden Huntress – Danielle L Jensen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Soooo. Four books isn’t a bad number. It’s not great but it’s definitely not bad! I’m working on the review for Minor Prophets and I have a couple other ARCs that need to be read and reviewed soon. With my motivation goal I’m going to use them as a starting point. After that I’m just going to be mood reading. I made a loose TBR for myself for September. I tend to match the book genres I’m reading to the mood or atmosphere of the current month. Since it’s finally the start of Fall I want to read more historical fiction and mystery books! So I want to read at least one of each genre this month! I guess we’ll see at the end of September if that actually ends up being the case.

How’s your reading been?
